Adrian Sutton

Adrian is Head of Condensed Matter Theory in the Department of Physics at Imperial College London, which is a group of 11 distinguished condensed matter and materials physicists. He is also Director of the Doctoral Training Centre on Theory and Simulation of Materials at Imperial, where he leads 50 academics in the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Materials, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics and Chemical Engineering in the provision of advanced training and research in theory and simulation of materials. He was trained as a materials scientist and moved to the Physics department at Imperial to get closer to the source of mathematically competent students. He has written two books, one of which has been issued in the OUP series "Classic texts in the physical sciences". He has also published 180 papers and his h-index is 36. He was elected to the Royal Society at the age of 47 in 2003 and he holds a Royal Society Merit Award. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, the Royal Society of Chemistry and the Institute of Materials. He moved to Imperial in January 2005 after 23 years at Oxford, where he lives with his wife and their border collie.
